Service Hours and Conservation Service Hours are part of the Rank Requirements from Tenderfoot thru Star.  Scouts need to get approval from their scoutmaster before volunteering for service projects outside of the troop calendar to confirm their effort will count toward the rank advancement requirement they are working on.
Conservation Service Hours

Descanso Gardens - Plants may draw you to the gardens, but people are what keep it growing!  Visit the volunteer page on their website, you can submit a volunteer interest form or call 818-949-4200 x. 219 to learn more about opportunities.  

Deukmejian Wilderness Park - Wilderness Workdays are on the 3rd Saturday each month.  Trails & Open Spaces webpage. For more information, send an email to trailopenspace@glendaleca.gov or call 818-548-3795.

Eaton Canyon Nature Center - The park conservation group provides monthly opportunities to volunteer within the park to do weed removal, tree planting, and maintenance of native plants.  Call 626-398-5420 or send email to learn more about this opportunity.

Flood Memorial Clean Up - Support American Legion Post 288 by cleaning up the 1934 Flood Memorial on the corner of Rosemont & Fairway in Montrose.  



Service Hours 

Ascencia Glendale - Provides housing and meals to assist people out of homelessness, and they welcome volunteers to support their services.  Visit their volunteer webpage to learn about their guest chef (to feed 45 people breakfast and dinner daily), serve dessert (for 45 people), brown bag lunch, hygiene kits, new blankets, and donation drives (new clothing, breakfast & cereal) programs.  See flyers below.  Contact their volunteer office by email or call 818-246-7900 x.3 to arrange your service.  After making arrangements with the volunteer office, here is the Guest Chef sign-up link.  

Bailey Center - A food pantry at United Methodist Church, 9901 Tujunga Cyn Blvd., Tujunga 91042.  Our Scouting For Food project delivers food to them with our annual project. They hand out food to approximately 250 families on a weekly basis, and they are always in need of food donations. They usually welcome volunteers on Tues/Wed from 8-2.  Contact Maureen at 818-625-7818 to schedule service hours.

Children's Hunger Fund - Provides food for hungry kids around the world, volunteers of all ages are welcome at the distribution center in Sylmar. Volunteers tasks may include: packing food paks, bagging bulk beans and pasta, sorting donations or prepping containers for shipment.  Visit their volunteer webpage to sign up.  Project Food Pak is another option where you can purchase food from the shopping list provided to fill as many boxes as you want, and then deliver to the distribution center.

Eagle Scout Service Projects - Support your fellow scouts in Troop 288 by volunteering for their projects.

Friends In Deed - Welcomes community support with their Food Pantry, Women's Room, and Collection Drives for Outreach & Housing programs in Pasadena.  Contact info for volunteers

Memorial Day Ceremony - Our troop supports the annual ceremony at Two Strike Park hosted by our Chartered Organization, American Legion Post 288.  We deliver and set up chairs, hand out programs, participate in flag ceremony, attend ceremony, clean up and return chairs. 

Operation Gratitude - Our troop usually volunteers at their facility annually on a care package assembly day, check our activity calendar.  There are additional ways to volunteer with this organization including: Collection Drives, writing Letters of Gratitude, and making Paracord Survival Bracelets that can be delivered or mailed to the facility. 

Pasadena Humane Society - Are you an animal lover?  You can make service projects for animals at the shelter, donate items on their wishlists for dogs, cats, critters, and wildlife.  Contact their volunteer services office at 626-792-7151 to arrange a time to deliver your items.  

Ronald McDonald House - A home away from home for families caring for critically ill children getting medical treatments at hospitals in Pasadena. Volunteers can support in these programs: Activity Kits, Toiletry Kits, Snack Packs, and Encouragement Cards.  Contact their volunteer coordinator at 626-204-0402 or prmh-volunteer@rmhcsc.org 

Scouting For Food - Our troop supports the annual food drive hosted by the Verdugo Hills Council every November.  We set up a food collection site at the Memorial Hall where local Cub Scouts drop off food collected from the community, we sort the food and deliver to local food shelters.

Sue's Garden - A food pantry at Highlands Church, 4441 La Crescenta Avenue in La Crescenta.  Their food pantry is on the corner of La Crescenta & Community.  Our Scouting for Food project delivers much needed food to this and other food pantries.  Throughout the year, they run out of certain types of non-perishable foods and hygiene items faster than others.  Scouts can collect these items and bring them to the church anytime, they welcome fruit and veggies from home trees too.  Contact their volunteer office by email to arrange your service. 

Union Station Pasadena - Provides meals for the homeless, and they welcome volunteers to support their services.  Visit their Volunteer webpage to learn about the Sack Lunch, Hygiene Kitand Wish List collection drive programs.  Contact their volunteer office at 626-240-0720 to arrange your service.
